(This is another "tried and true" dish, which I cooked for guests on Sunday.)
Cut the root vegetables into small pieces and boil them until tender (about 10 min). In the meantime, make white sauce by heating up milk, flour, and butter, optionally adding some cheese. Put the drained vegetables into a buttered casserole dish and pour the sauce over it. Again, optionally add cheese and bread crumbs on top. Bake at 325F/175C degrees for 30 minutes or so.
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tbps butter
- 2 tbps flour
- potatoes & sweet potatoes
- rootabaga & turnip
- carrots & parsnips
